Großglockner Glacier funicular
At Franz-Josefs-Höhe, the end point of the Großglockner High Alpine Road another attraction awaits you that is also covered by the National Park Kärnten Card: a short ride on a funicular, then a short hike and you will have reached the largest glacier in the Eastern Alps, the Pasterze a 9km stretch of eternal ice, with the Großglockner (3,798m) towering above.
Once the ice extended as far as the funicular’s valley station. However it has undergone a significant visible retreat during the last decades. Up and down through the ages, as the glacial polishing testifies. The force of nature – an experience made possible thanks to the Großglockner glacier funicular.
