National Park Exhibition in the Oberstbergmeisteramt, with lots of interesting information and exciting tales about Obervellach and the Region.
The exhibition carries you off into the world of the National Park and Obervellach’s rich cultural history. The “National Park Explorer” – a huge inter-active map of the area – invites you to explore the Region’s beauty and diversity. Here you can check out particularly interesting destinations in the Carinthian National Park in fine detail. You will be shown the special highlights of each place in a short multimedia show.
On lively information banners spread out around the room, distinctive landscape and natural-history features around Obervellach are illustrated with super pictures and little dioramas. Interactive stops make this small but high quality exhibition entertaining and very diverse.
Another room is dedicated to Obervellach’s rich cultural history. Here there is a large, specially made “Time-Travel Microphone” to summon up Obervellach’s history and its folklore. Short sound bites from the different epochs narrate the ups and downs in the development of this market town. They report the gold rush in the Middle Ages, the decline of the mining industry in the Little Ice Age, the hundred-year boom occasioned by an accidental find, unusual hikers, internationally famous art treasures, renowned people, the packhorse drivers and Emperors. Even today the traces of this rich history can be seen throughout the town.
In the adjoining tourist office you can get more detailed information about the town and the Hohe Tauern National Park.
